Near the end of each week, Steve and Leo get together to discuss interesting and important computer security issues ranging from something that may have recently happened, to long-standing problems, concerns and solutions to help keep you safe from malicious attack.
Who Is Steve Gibson?
Steve Gibson is the founder of Gibson Research Corporation and the creator of SpinRite, a mass storage data recovery and maintenance software. He also created the highly popular ShieldsUp! firewall testing site, along with the Perfect Passwords site, which is an ultra high security password generator that has been made available to the general public for enhanced security and peace of mind.
Steve is also credited with being the first one to discover and let everyone know about vulnerabilities in three Windows XP services: DCom, UPnP and Messenger. He also created individual freeware applications to resolve these problems, even before Microsoft finally released the appropriate patches, which was long after all of these vulnerabilities had been publically announced to the world.
He was also the first one to have discovered and coined the term "spyware" way back in 2000-2001 and created an anti-spyware program called OptOut, which was retired in 2001 to focus on the development of several other projects. Steve is no doubt an expert in Windows security and regularly appears in the podcast: "This Week In Tech". Click Here To Visit Steve Gibson's Website.
